Kew Green Preparatory School, Richmond, Surrey

An existing four storey open plan  space office block (formerly owned by Kew Gardens) situated on the river Thames has been converted into a Preparatory School for 4 - 11 year olds. wr associates were appointed to carry out a survey and examination of all mechanical and electrical engineering services existing and prepare a Report for adaptation and refurbishment.

It is proposed that the Offices be converted into Classrooms (on ground, first and second floors) and Kitchen, Dining and (mixed use) Hall in the basement. additional/increased toilet facilities were provided on all floors. The classrooms (6 per floor)  formed by lightweight partitions and having a central corridor. For the basement additional windows being formed to provide natural light and ventilation to the Hall/Dining Room. The windows being on the north side of the building.

A disabled stair lift is to be provided for disabled use from the ground floor to the basement level.

Future development being considered will be the provision of usable space on the roof by the construction of a ‘mansard’ roof. This area to be used as a gymnasium.

In addition to the above, provision and adaptation for the construction of an additional fire escape staircase and  a full height lift.
